Season 15, Hell's Legacy, leans hard into Diablo history without making the whole season feel like a museum tour. Deckard Cain is back, sending you from a tavern to the Imperial Library and into Waking Nightmares built around Baal, Mephisto, and Diablo. It's a good excuse to revisit old faces, but the real draw is what comes after: each victory feeds the new Prime Evil Power system. Before heading out, plenty of players will want their build sorted with D4 items, because these fights ask for more than casual clearing speed. The quests have a proper sense of momentum, with Cain giving the season a familiar voice instead of leaving you to chase another anonymous marker.

The road through hatred

Mephisto's chapter, The Burning Shepherd, is where the season starts to feel properly focused. Cain points you toward Travincal in Hawezar, and you gather Khalim's Brain, Eye, Heart, and Flail. Once the set is complete, Khalim's Will opens the route through the Durance of Hate. It's a simple goal on paper. In practice, the trip has that old-school Diablo rhythm: push deeper, clear the room, check your footing, then keep moving. The Echo of Mephisto drops runes, experience, and another Soulstone splinter, so this is not just a nostalgia stop. It moves your seasonal build forward in a meaningful way.

Three powers, three different priorities

The choice at Cain's table matters because only one splinter can be active at a time. Each one gives an attack effect and shifts rewards in certain activities. Here's the quick comparison players will actually use when deciding where to spend their time.

Prime Evil | Power | Best fit.
Diablo | Flames of Metus | Helltides and Infernal Hordes.
Baal | Ice of Excidium | Lair Bosses and Undercity runs.
Mephisto | Ghosts of Odium | The Pit and Nightmare Dungeons.

Diablo's fire lines suit crowded events, while Baal is the cleaner pick if you're chasing boss rewards. Mephisto feels built for players who want to keep climbing difficult content rather than just farming fast.

What to do after choosing

Once you've picked a power, don't overthink the reputation grind. Just play into its War Plan bonuses and let progress stack up naturally. A practical route looks like this.

• Pick the splinter that matches the activity you already enjoy.
• Run its boosted content while clearing regular seasonal goals.
• Collect reputation until the track reaches 20,000.
• Take upgrades that fix your resource needs or add stronger damage pressure.

There are six upgrades to earn, and they can change how a skill feels in real combat. Some help with primary resource, while others punish high-health enemies. You'll notice the difference most when elite packs start taking longer than they should.

Legacy rewards worth chasing

The Baal route can also bring back Leoric's Crown, now treated like jewelry for affixes and Soul Splinters while boosting a socketed gem's effect. Diablo's route offers the Stone of Jordan, which can align your resistances with your highest value and raise matching elemental damage. Those drops give the quest chain some extra pull beyond the seasonal power itself. If you're planning tougher Pit tiers or repeated boss runs, checking diablo 4 gear for sale alongside your own drops can help fill awkward gaps, then the real work is learning which Prime Evil path fits the way you play.
